Here’s a detailed breakdown of personal trainer pricing in New York City:
Key Pricing Factors:
Availability and demand. The more in demand a trainer is, the higher his price will be.
Location (Manhattan vs. Brooklyn/Bronx).
Experience and niche market specialization (rehab, bodybuilding, longevity, pre/post-natal, etc.)
Athletic achievements: a national champion and national team athlete has obviously a much higher value than a trainer that never competed in any high level sport.
Level of certifications and academic degrees.
Format (in-person vs. virtual, one-on-one vs. group)
Trainer's Reputation (press, awards, reviews, publications, celebrity clientele)
Numbers of followers on social media
Personality of the trainer! Humor, kindness, and entertaining personality are rare and valuable.
Paying upfront a package of 10 sessions or more will give get you a 5-15% discount.
Paying in cash instead of Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp, will likely get you a 5-15% discount.
1. Independent Personal Trainers (Private, Freelance)
These trainers operate independently and often travel to clients’ homes, private gyms, or use independent training spot (extra gym fee).
Standard-Level (1–3 years experience)
$40 – $100/hour
Often certified (e.g., NASM, ACE), but still building clientele and reputation.
Experienced-Level (3–10 years experience)
$100 – $200/hour
More personalized programs, client retention, and often work with executives or athletes.
Elite/High-End (10+ years, specialized or celebrity trainers)

Often trains celebrities, high net worth individuals, or high-level professionals. May include longevity, rehab, or biohacking expertise.
2. Gym-Based Trainers (Working at Facilities Like Equinox, Crunch, etc.)
Equinox:
Tier 1 Trainer: $120 – $135/session (55 minutes)
Tier 2 Trainer: $135 – $155/session
Tier 3 / Master Trainer: $155 – $185+/session
Tier X (Elite Performance Coaches): $185 – $250+/session
Note: Equinox trainers are often employees, and the gym keeps a large percentage of the session fee.
Crunch / NYSC / Blink
$60 – $120/session, depending on location, trainer seniority, and session length. Lower-cost gyms often have shorter sessions (30–45 minutes).
3. Online Personal Training & Coaching
$100 – $500/month for custom programming and check-ins.
$1,000 – $5,000+/month for high-end online coaching (includes FaceTime sessions, 24/7 access, personalized nutrition, and biohacking/longevity protocols).
Alex Folacci:
"I started at $35/h in 2015 after breaking my back and losing my athletic scholarship, and now in 2025, I'm at $380/h or $3,300/10 sessions with always 18-22 active clients.
This makes me one of the most successful and highest paid personal trainers in the world. The fact that I only have high paying clients with very high standards, who consistently renew their packages of 10 sessions, means that this is my true value on the market. Moreover, every day I receive 1-3 coaching requests, that I try to help as best I can by referring to a certified personal trainer of my team for example.
I also developed other offers such as:
$150 for your friend or partner to join the session.
30min online (facetime) for $165 (Half of your session in the package). Perfect when my client travel for business or vacation.
$200/h or $1,500/10 for a certified personal trainer of my team that travels to you.
